The caged bird flutters, wishing to escape
But she’s heavy, grounded, chained
To the bone, to the core
Unable to fly
The caged bird cries deep from the soul
Her feathers fall one by one
Leaves in autumn two by two
Until her tears dry
The caged bird wrestles the iron hold
Claws, scratches, not able to break
Bleeds and her scars show
She cowers in her own shadow
The caged bird whistles her death song
No longer able to stand alone
She falls like her feathers
Like her tears, leaves in autumn
One by one, two by two.
